Captain grandmother, sir. Is it really true That sometimes you talk to the spirits? Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill (Nemesis the Warlock, Marshall Law) conclude with Nemo: River of Ghosts their third trilogy set in the world of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. In Heart of Ice, The Roses of Berlin and in this hardcover she told some episodes from the life of Janni Nemo, daughter of Captain Nemo. We saw her for the first time appearing briefly disney alice in wonderland in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: 1910.
The year is 1975 and Janni was at the zenith of its power. She is the science-pirate who was her father and maybe more. But she starts on her eightieth gradually losing grip on reality. She is not only surrounded by her friends and acquaintances, but also by the ghosts of her past. Bygone memories that only manifest in her. She knows what time it is ... and other people too. Something is indeed beautifully portrayed by Kevin O'Neill through the face of Janni. Then reach her messages that Ayesha has surfaced again. Janni pulls out her new bodyguard Hugo Cochlan and faithfuls out to settle once and for all with its archenemy disney alice in wonderland ...
This third and final part is clearly more of the same and for the attentive viewer even an extension of the previous parts. Moore's attention last year was of course drawn by his delirious novel Jerusalem. This third trilogy is anything but intellectual achievement that the first League of Extraordinary Gentlemen- stories were. Moore and O'Neill clearly opt for a more inspired by pulp approach. It is now also a tightly plotted story, but measured on the scale of Moore is obviously still disappointing. For any other writer disney alice in wonderland the score would be higher. Moore could be better. This is what little simple, though you can not deny a certain coolness.
It is the last trip inside the world of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but Moore and O'Neill are still not bored with each other. They are currently working on a new project that is described as "something modernist", whatever the fuck that Means.
